A Few Books I've Read

Mindsets
by Carol Dweck
I love the idea of fixed and growth mindsets. I didn't love this book, but you can get an understanding of the concept from the first chapter, then scan the rest of the book for interesting tidbits.

The First Days of School
by Harry K. Wong
The copy I have is a little dated, but otherwise this is a great book full of quick and easy tips on how to be an effective teacher. It covers classroom set up, the first day, professional behavior, and much more. This is definitely a reference book more than a "read every page" book. There's also an updated version available.

Yardsticks
by Chip Wood
A helpful age-by-age guide to childhood development, particularly as it pertains to the classroom setting.

The Global Achievement Gap
by Tony Wagner
An interesting look at the current state of education and a peek into several schools who are making changes.

Every Student Can Succeed
by William Glasser
Choice Theory - building strong relationships with students to ensure a more productive classroom culture.
